What is NAMS/SAMS?
And how are they a key part of Boat-Chek?
The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (S.A.M.S.) is one of the industry's most trusted and largest organization of surveyors. With over 1000 members worldwide SAMS is the preferred organization for insurance claims and pre-purchase surveys.
The National Association of Marine Surveyors (N.A.M.S.) is a non-profit organization that certifies marine surveyors and provides continuing education opportunities. NAMS ' membership is international and, once certified, its members carry the NAMS-Certified Marine Surveyor (NAMS-CMS) designation after their names.
From recreational boats to commercial ships, NAMS members survey new and used vessels to determine their condition and value. NAMS members also survey cargo, machinery, docks, wharfs, marinas, and handling equipment related to the marine industry. NAMS members routinely investigate marine claims and act as expert trial witnesses.
Surveyors are the vital key that provide buyers with accurate information on the boat they wish to purchase or maintain. Boats being purchased with financing and insurance require a full marine survey on all vessels. Surveyors inspect the engines, hull, electronics and all mechanical equipment, interior, safety equipment, bilge, sea trials, engine lab analysis, valuations, recommendations, and provide a detailed report with pictures.
SAMS PREAMBLE
Members of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors must
be persons of integrity, who conduct business in a professional, ethical manner.
Members shall not violate or attempt to violate the Code of Ethics and Rules of
Practice, or knowingly assist or induce others to do so. Members shall be
dedicated to the preservation of life and property in the marine
environment.
*Please realize that Boat-Chek reports, although performed by certified NAMS/SAMS members, do not qualify as a full marine survey for financing or insurance purposes. Boat-Chek reports are to be used as a tool to help sellers market their boats and buyers to narrow their search.
